Japanese Skills · 言の葉
Japanese Skills · 言の葉 brings the study content of japaneseskills.com into the conversation. Ask what a Japanese word means, how it is read or pronounced, or how to conjugate it, and a word card appears: the reading with its pitch accent drawn the way dictionaries print it, the meaning in your language, whether a verb is godan or ichidan, its key forms and full conjugation table, an example sentence with a translation, and play buttons for the site’s recordings where the word has one. Ask about a kanji to see the JLPT words that use it, from the lowest level up. Ask about a grammar pattern such as 〜てもいい or ために to get its meaning, an example and the page that explains it. It can also list the site’s JLPT practice levels and courses, with links. The words come from the site’s list of 9,040 JLPT words (N5–N1), with meanings in Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, English and Korean; the grammar comes from its 828 grammar points. Word meanings are from JMdict (EDRDG, CC BY-SA 4.0) and pitch accents from Kanjium (CC BY-SA 4.0). Every answer links to its page on japaneseskills.com. For learners of Japanese from their first words to JLPT N1, and for their teachers. What it does not do: it does not translate sentences or paragraphs, and it covers only the words and grammar points in the site’s lists. When a word is not in the list, it says so instead of guessing. Privacy: no account and no sign-up. The plugin receives the word, kanji or grammar pattern you ask about and the display language; it uses them only to answer and does not store them. It keeps only anonymous daily counts of how often each lookup is used. The word card sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device and runs no analytics.
